I orig. bought this Live album, in vinyl format, in 1978. Then in 1979, I bought this album again in 8 Track tape form so that I could play it in my car. During that summer of ''79, I played the Hell out of this when I was w/ my cousin Mark. I thought that these live in concert songs were excellent. Great remakes of the old Animals song "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" & B.O.C.''s version of this song is far more Superior to the orig. version. The remake of "Kick Out the Jams" orig. by MC 5, is also excellent. "R U Ready To Rock" is always a great way to start their live albums. Normally, I wasn''t too keen on "E.T.I. (Extra Terrestrial Intelligence)", UNTIL I heard the 1978 LIVE version & then I changed my mind about this song completely & I began to love it as much as their other classics. "E.T.I." also mentions the title "Agents Of Fortune" in its lyrics. "Astronomy" is also good & it''s about 2 minutes longer that the orig. version from "Secret Treaties" And, of course their Biggest classics "Godzilla'' & "Don''t Fear the Reaper" are terrific. It''s always recommended for all the B.O.C. fans.

This was, easily, my favorite live album. It made me into a lifelong BOC fan. With the new tracks and DVD, it''s still #1. The original was what I call "a perfect record", meaning you start listening and you can''t stop until it''s done. The new additions don''t change this, they just give me a great extended "encore" to prolong my joy. The DVD gives a great glimpse into the energy this band had at it''s (arguably) peak! It was great to see the original line-up once again!

Reading the reviews are right on as far as the video is concerned, not great quality, the band is not their best, but it is BOC from the 70''s, and I saw them on this tour. That was my biggest influence on buying this deal.

I have always thought of the original, single disc version of Some Enchanted Evening (1978) as being equal to On Your Feet Or On Your Knees (1975) - very different albums with the raw energy & uneven production of the earlier release compared to the slicker, better sound quality of SEE - pound for pound though OUFOOYK certainly had the heavier weight of classic tracks - well this new expanded version of SEE addresses that as it throws ME262, Harvester Of Eyes & Hot Rails to Hell at you in quick succession - cracking renditions they are to (this might be the best live Harvester available & ME262 is sleek & brutal as well) - some of the later additional tracks interrupt the flow slightly - for example I would personally favour the full rendition of Golden Age of Leather compared to 5 Guitars - I suspect that Buck found this a difficult live vocal to put across (it''s a very lyrically driven story) so the evocative guitar work was pulled into the 5 Guitars instrumental instead - we probably don''t need the almost identical additional We''ve Got To Get Out Of This Place as well - a live "I Love The Night" would have been much more appreciated instead! This legacy edition also includes Some Other Enchanted Evening which is a 60 minute DVD featuring a 1978 concert shot on video tape on the same tour - the modest production values do not hide a fine performance on the night - this footage was taken a couple of years before I got to see the band live so it''s fun to see them at their peak - still with lasers on show - BOC are fired up & working like a well oiled machine - Harvester Of Eyes, ETI, Kick Out The Jams , Ready To Rock, Golden Age etc sound great & anyone who thinks that the stunning version of Astronomy on the original SEE was a fluke needs to see the one on this DVD - it appears to be almost as impressive (Buck can certainly play lead guitar - as he demonstrates on Harvester & ETI as well) - the finale is Born To Be Wild & Eric gets the chance to shout "Lasers"! - flash-bombs also go off & sparks fly with the traditional guitar duel between Buck & Eric - BOC really added a new dimension to this old classic at the end of their act - fans are right to bemoan the lack of a live "Reaper" on the DVD - given how key the track is they have never really provided a definitive live take for fans to revel in. You only have to look at the energy & enjoyment coming off the band during Kick Out The Jams to see that this was a cracking concert in Landover. So that leaves the seven tracks that were issued in 78 - as I''ve already alluded to the beautiful ballad "Astronomy" was the album highlight (career highpoint?) - a brilliant, complex song played to perfection here - emotionally uplifting just by the sheer quality of the musicianship & unique dexterity of the original song. Mid period songs from Agents of Fortune & Spectres sound heavier here - Ready 2 Rock is now high tempo with sizzling guitars, drums & keyboards & some rebel rousing led by Eric with the Atlanta public - Reaper has some inspired guitar work from Dharma at it''s finale - Godzilla has bigger riffs & more (mock) drama & a mercifully short drum solo! - the band''s choice of Kick Out The Jams as a cover makes sense when you see them play it - they ditch the social commentary of the MC5 in favour of joyously pounding it out instead - ETI circa 1978 always provides air guitar heaven with it''s crunching riffs & gloriously over the top flying saucer / Men In Black lyrics. The Legacy version comes in a nice gatefold package with some neat photos, plenty of colour concert shots etc - highly recommended for anyone wanting to experience one of America''s top classic rock bands at a special time in their career.

''Some Enchanted Evening'' was originally released as a kind of document of BOC''s sleeker, more melodic phase covered by ''Agents Of Fortune'' and ''Spectres.'' The previous live album, ''On Your Feet...'' had closed their classic hard rock phase, and the production values of these two live albums differ substantially. Whereas ''On Your Feet...'' sounds more dense, a little muddy, ''Some Enchanted Evening'' is sharp and clear. The result is that the harder rock material is more suited to the earlier album and the later stuff to the latter. The exception is the old chestnut, ''Astronomy,'' their epic from ''Secret Treaties'' which thrives from the sharper production and which would have been wasted on the earlier live album. Once the cliched ''Are you ready to rock, etc'' introduction is out of the way, this album bristles with invention and energy. The cover of MC5''s ''Kick Out The Jams'' is a questionable choice, however, particularly as the bonus ''5 Guitars'' has more jams than Robertsons. ''We Gotta Get Out Of This Place,'' however, provides a fine climax to the album proper. The first three bonuses were all included on ''On Your Knees...'' and though the versions included here are very good, they sound better on the earlier album. The novelty instrumental, ''5 Guitars,'' meanwhile, is fluff. They might as well have stuck with ''Buck''s Boogie.'' The DVD is a little ropey in quality, though there is a warning of this on the sleeve. It''s also a fairly similar match for the CD. I don''t have much interest in music on DVD, but such is the dearth of footage of BOC I find this entertaining. Despite the little criticisms, I rate this reissue as a must-have for anyone who''s ever liked their music.

There is something not quite right about single(vinyl) live albums; not to say that they can''t be good, just that it always feels like something else from the performance is missing. So it is with great satisfaction that this classic album is restored to its proper place giving the listening the feeling that they are experiencing the complete show - aurally anyway. The bonus tracks may well have been on their previous live album On Your Feet Or On Your Knees but the production is a lot better here. To add to the sense of occasion a DVD of a live performance from 1978 accompanies it. It opens with a statement saying that the filming was never intended for commercial use and therefore maybe a bit flakey in places, or words to that effect...and so it is but who cares? It is still a good quality DVD representation of a great band performing 30 years ago - including some fashion howlers like Buck Dharma in a white 2 piece suit no, no, no, no,... not even in 1978 - at an incredible price.
